I apologize for taking so long to get going on this, but I promise the wait will be over soon. I ordered my very own Samsung Finesse from Straight Talk last Friday morning, and I’m now waiting on the shipment. I’m a little disappointed with Straight Talk on this – I paid for “overnight” shipping, but the phone didn’t even leave the warehouse until the fourth business day after I placed my order. That’s not the type of customer service I’d like to see when I pay over $400 for a phone (including the service time, overnight shipping, and sales tax).
I have seen a couple of other people online talking about slowing shipping from Straight Talk in the last week, so I guess maybe we can cut them a little slack as this is probably their busiest few weeks of the year between the debut of the Samsung r810c and the normal holiday rush. Still, if it becomes a pattern with them I will definitely not be impressed.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I’ll be updating this blog as soon as I receive the new phone, hopefully with a short review video as I open the Finesse for the first time. Of course,I also plan to do an in-depth review soon after I receive the phone, so watch for that as well. Stay tuned…

Hi. I recently purchased the Samsung R810C and also paid for overnight shipping. It shipped four days later. I think they must be busy with holiday season. My first impressions for the phone, was that its pretty solid phone. My only complaints so far, is a poor reception where I was normally getting reception with my LG290C. Also, you cannot forward text messages with more than one slide.. or create a text message with more than one slide! I’m interested to know what you like, or dislike with the phone.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the new phone. Have had mine for a couple of days and am getting used to it after some struggle. It has the potential to be a great phone at a good price per month compared to contract phones. I have a friend who owns a business and is thinking of dropping his business contract phone when it expires and getting the Finesse. I think I can get by on the $30 a month plan.
Some thoughts so far:
My Gmail works fine though I have to go to contacts to get the recipients rather than getting them by predictive logic by first letter on the PC.
Google calendar is supported and works well.
Google Documents do not seem to be supported for this browser. This is disappointing. They are supported on many other browsers. Is there a work around?
It would seem like it would have been easy for Samsung/Straight Talk to have included a contact manager. I like to have addresses etc with me as I travel. Can one be loaded to the phone?
Good move setting up the phone specific site. I think it will be popular as the phone gains ground.

I believe you can add videos to the memory card and watch them on the phone, but youtube does NOT work.

Is there any 3rd party software to sync with outlook calendar?

Rick, I don’t believe there is, but I honestly haven’t looked all that hard as I don’t use outlook at all.

I just got the Straight Talk service and it is so wonderful! Ok so times are tough and I was spending over a hundred dollars a month on my phone bill and I just couldn’t do it anymore. So I got Straight Talk and I pay only 45 dollars a month for unlmited texting, talking, and data. ITS JUST UNBELIEVEABLE! I can’t imagine anyone doing anything else. The service is great because its on the verizon network and the phones are wonderful as well! First off – there is no contract so if you need to stop using your phone… BAM its all good. I can’t believe I didn’t know about Straight Talk last year… I HIGHLY SUGGEST looking into it!

Thanks for the input! I think that we’ll be hearing from more people like you as time goes on, because really a service like this is all most people need – and the price can’t be beat!

Hi Jessi,
1. I have no idea bout the battery life announcement, I never had that problem. It must be a setting somewhere within the phone, but I’m not sure where.
2. search ebay for “samsung finesse usb.” That should turn up the right cable to use. If not that, try Samsung Jack USB – the cable should be the same.
3. I never did have any luck getting games onto teh phone, but you might want to try a technique I’m writing a little bit about right now, and will be posting on my blog on Friday afternoon. I’ll be posting it at pbush14.wordpress.com

thnx for ur response! i did have one last question, i bought a usb cord but its kind of useless since it didnt come with any software to install to use for my phone, so is there any cd or something i should buy? or anything u would recommend on how to use the usb?

Jessi, sorry I missed your question. Did you get this figured out? Basically, there isn’t any software. All you can do through USB with this model is to transfer files to and from the MicroSD card within the phone.

this phone seems great except i can’t understand why there isn’t a qwerty keyboard. couldn’t they have used a qwerty keyboard graphic for messaging purposes as easily as showing the standard keyboard…since either would just be a display on the touch screen? is there another model coming soon like this one but with a qwerty keyboard?

I’m not sure I understand your question. This model DOES have a qwerty keyboard that pops up on the touch-screen in messaging situations.
