I am a blogger and write frequently about the prepaid wireless industry. While I publish in many places around the web, I most frequently can be found at pbush14.wordpress.com.

I am waiting to see if straight talk will make a blackberry availalbe. I don’t want to purchase the samsung if blackberry or an i phone is a possiblity, what are your thoughts?

I really have no idea. I would guess that a lot depends on the success of this phone – I would think that if they sell a lot of Finesse handsets, that will give them confidence that the market approves of their service, which might lead to more high-end phone sales. That’s all speculation, though. Another thing to think about is that it’s certainly possible that Verizon has the final say on what handsets get approved for Straight Talk, since Verizon is the carrier on all these new phones. VZW might prefer to keep the Blackberry market segment out of their lower-priced offerings.

To Heather~
I don’t think there is any possibility of the I-phone coming to straight talk or any other prepaid services for that matter. Blackberry is another story. You can talk to the maker of this website or even contact straight talk representatives to find out or help you with that. But you should really be happy with the Samsung Finesse R810C. There hasn’t been any other company with per-paid plans or pre-paid companies with touch screen phones or anything good of that matter

Just thought I would share, today I went to the walmart’s website and they now have the finesse up on the site, some store have it..and if your store don’t have it you can always have it ship to store…I’m quite happy to see that assuming that it won’t be long most walmart will have the phone…

Hello all. Some of you were asking about Blackberry’s or other smart phones coming to the Straight Talk service. I am a Walmart Connection Center employee, and the other day I was discussing the upcoming Straight Talk phones with the Tracphone rep. that was at our store. He said that right now Straight Talk is in the process of testing eight different phones, and all of them are either touch screen smart phones or Blackberry phones. One of them includes the Motorola Droid, which, if released on Straight Talk, would revolutionize the prepaid cell phone world, imho. I mean can you imagine having unlimited talk, text, AND DATA on the Droid for $45 a month? AWESOME! Only downside is that it will probably be super expensive.
So anyway I figured I’d just let you guys know a little of what’s going on behind the scenes at Straight Talk. Hope it helps

Estaban, thanks so much for taking the time to share this news – it’s very exciting!
The Droid would be awesome, as would the Nexus One. And I’m sure Blackberry would attract many users as well. I’d really like to see the Palm Pre Plus or Pixi Plus. Both of these devices can also use Wi-Fi internet, and, best of all, can be used to create a wi-fi hotspot on the go. So you could use your phone to connect to EVDO, and then connect your laptop to the hotspot to take advantage of the internet connection. Sounds like heaven to me. I doubt Straight Talk would allow it, though (probably because Verizon won’t let them).
If you get more news, I’d love to hear from you, either here or on my main blog at pbush14.wordpress.com. Thanks again!

So, I already have a phone with Straight Talk,is there anyway possible that I can just switch to the new Finesse?
February 9, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Shardae, you can definitely do this. I haven’t personally transferred an existing account to a new phone, but I know it’s possible. If you go to straight talk’s site and click on “activate,” one of the options is:
“Activate or reactivate my phone with a number transferred from another Straight Talk phone.”

On the Straight Talk website the carrier for the service was listed as a trade mark for TracFone, not VZW. So isn’t the carrier TracFone?
February 10, 2010 at 1:37 am
I think that most accurately, “carrier” refers to the company that owns the network infrastructure that transmits the phone’s signals. In that case, the carrier is Verizon, since they own the towers and routing equipment that runs Straight Talk’s phones. TracFone and Straight Talk, as well as Net10, are owned by the same parent company – America Movil.

Is the Samsung Finesse not kinda like the Droid? I thought it was in some reviews that I have read online.
February 13, 2010 at 1:42 am
I think the similarities pretty much begin and end at with the form (similar dimensions) and the touch screen. I think that if you buy this phone expecting it to do everything that a Droid can do, you’ll be sorely disappointed. Then again, you’ll save a nice chunk of change each month, too.

It seems to come and go from Straight Talk’s site, and hasn’t been on walmart.com for a while. Check out this post I just wrote:

I am excited about the Finesse. I found that it is available on straighttalk.com and have put it in my cart. It says that it is free delivery by UPS Ground 3-day, but when I go to pay for it the only options are paid options. Tried to call StraightTalk and the message said that they cannot take the call and to try again later (not a good sign). Guess I should just go for it and pay the shipping.
Pbushx2 – what is your experience with customer service with StraightTalk? When I called there wasn’t even an option for CS, just tech support.
May 3, 2010 at 1:41 pm
WillieJ – The free shipping isn’t listed as free right away – it will show up on your order summary page, right before the final submission of your order. In other words, you’ll see the free shipping credited to your order BEFORE you have to finalize your order.
Also, Straight Talk, Net10, and TracFone pretty much treat CS and Tech Support as the same. If you get a ‘tech support’ person, they’ll do their best to answer your non-technical questions as well (such as questions about an order). If they don’t know the answer, they’ll forward your call to someone that does, or pass you on to their supervisor.

Thanks for your quick response. I ordered one and then continued to read all your reviews which by the end said there are better bangs for your bucks. But I’ll see how it goes. They are supposed to have 30-day guaranteed or money back.
There are “No accessories available” for this device on straighttalk.com. How do I get a USB data cable and car charger?
May 3, 2010 at 2:19 pm
WillieJ – Try searching Amazon or Ebay for “Samsung Jack.” That model uses the same connector as the Finesse, and has compatible accessories.

Thanks again. I appreciate it. Your CS is much better than StraightTalks!
I am hoping that there will not be any problems transferring vids and pics using my mac. I assume there is no software involved.
May 4, 2010 at 6:18 am
Willie, I don’t have a Mac, but on my PC the phone simply attached as a removable storage drive, just like a flash drive. I didn’t need any special software. Also, my computers only recognized it if there was a microsd card installed.
May 8, 2010 at 4:04 pm
Recently purchased the 810, so far so good. Few questions, I have an 8G card installed and am attempting to transfer music and pictures to phone. Tried with the usb cable and my PC doesnt recognize the phone as a flash drive, or even that it is connected – I did notice that it seems to be charging the phone as the “battery strength” bars are segmenting as when charging. Am I not doing something correctly? The phone memory is set to the card. I formatted the micro card in the phone when it was first installed, is this the problem? When this approach didn’t work I connected the card via a separate usb card reader directly to my PC and was able to transfer some music and jpeg pictures from a digital camera without any issue. After replacing the card into the phone it will recognize the music that I can play without problem, however it doesnt recognize the pictures – the image files are there, but the phone won’t show the picts. Are they in the wrong format? Each image is about 1.5M in size, is that too large for the phone? Also, any ideas why the cable transfer won’t work for me – is there a phone setting or software issue that I am missing or have wrong? (running XP Pro)
Incidently, it appears that the phone was being charged from the usb cable, so do I have the wrong cable? Do they make a cable that will only charge the phone from usb, but won’t transfer data?
May 10, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Hi Kevin
Is there a setting somewhere in the menu that allows you to change the “usb mode?” I think it is supposed to be set to “USB disk” or “USB storage.” If it’s set instead to “USB modem” or something similar, that could be the problem. I don’t think the cable is the problem.
Unfortunately, I also can’t help you with the picture issue. I didn’t encounter that problem myself, and no longer own this phone.

Just bought one from Walmart.com. It was on “rollback” for $269. That made it a little easier to take the plunge. I have had straight talk for a few months now with a different phone to try it out and I have had no complaints.
